A Little Wedding Bliss

Last night two of my very, very, very, very, very good friends tied the knot. It was absolutely beautiful. I was so privileged in that wonderful celebration. The bride was absolutely gorgeous as she walked down aisle with her father and stopped to meet the glowing groom. I’m so happy for the couple and I truly believe that they will be truly blessed together.

The rehearsal dinner was absolutely stunning. Many tears were flowing at the touching toasts that night. It’s big moments like these that touch our hearts forever and strike a chord deep within us. The other bridesmaids were so amazing! I met them through Lizz and I have to say I have not met more fun girls than these! They were so friendly and fun and it felt like I had known them all my life.

This is a picture of me and the maid of honor while we were all busy getting our hair and makeup done.  This girl is hysterical! We were cutting up together the entire  time. SOOOOO many hilarious jokes.

This is a picture of two of the bridesmaids as well. The other one was the bride’s sister in law who is pregnant with a soon to be baby girl!

I was really excited about the limo ride, I had never ridden in one before and it was an absolutely amazing experience.

It was fabulous!!!!!! The church was gorgeous and the reception was so much fun! I have never danced so much in my life.

We also had a photo booth at the wedding and that was of course extremely fun!

Cheers to the happy couple!!!!!!!! Love them both!!!!

False alarm!

There is this road that I drive down quite frequently that apparently has a lot of older folks living down it. It has happened to me on more than one occasion where I pass by and want to pull over to help this really old man mow his lawn. It’s so pitiful because he is barely moving the lawn mower and I feel that he will keel over and die any minute. But one thing stops me, older people often get resentful of things they can “no longer do”. I just don’t want to be yelled at or be beaten by an umbrella by an old man because he thinks that I think that he can no longer mow the lawn. (Even though he obviously really can’t).

Today however was no exception. As I was driving down Nursing Home Lane I noticed an older lady on the ground underneath her mailbox. Alarm seared through my chest as I panicked that she may have decided to venture out of her house to check her mail and had a heart attack. She might have even fallen and not have one of those cool gadget thingys that I definitely want when I am old that will sound the alarm of “Help, I have fallen and I can’t get up!” I slow my car down slowly passing to see if this poor old lady needed a good Samaritan to come to her rescue! But alas I noticed that she was not, in fact, having a heart attack but trying to plant flowers underneath her mailbox.

So once again I feel as if old people should be warned of the danger they inflict on others when it seems that they are having a heart attack, perhaps a much-needed sign put at the end of their driveway saying, Caution, Old person doing yard work, this is NOT, a heart attack, please do not call 911.

One of these signs wouldn’t hurt either

Pink Ladies in New Orleans

This weekend was one of my good friends bachelorette party and it was one super fun weekend. Of course as all rules goes, what happens in New Orleans STAYS in New Orleans. BUT I will share a few of the good time memories. First off, we all got a fabulous hotel and got dressed up in black dresses and pink wigs. Here is the final product.   Walking around New Orleans, we felt like celebrities. Everyone kept stopping us to take pictures with them. The hoots and hollers were crazy. The whole time was just so much fun. New Orleans was packed with gobs of people in blue UK Wildcat shirts. The atmosphere was fabulous and so much fun. Who knew there were so many good looking men in one spot!

At the end of the night, the wigs came off! The night was absolutely so much fun and of course I won’t share everything that happened but pictures say a thousand words so I leave you with a few thousand words that are represented in these pictures! :)

Stay tuned for adventures of next weekend, the Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Baton Rouge…..

Funnies from Second Grade

I really, really love teaching. It’s an amazing profession despite all the insane work you have to do, especially when you are a newbie like me. The best part, though, is seeing life through these second graders. They can be so funny. Sometimes too grown up for their own good.

I was teaching a science lesson on pitch and the kids were acting out the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The kids would act out a part and have to fluctuate their voice to match their character. Some of the boys wanted to be the girl parts so that they could change their voice. When one boy was asked who another kid was going to be, he replied with complete seriousness, “He’s the baby mama.”

I was teaching a math lesson where the students were given coins and shopping cards and they had to tell me if they had enough money to buy the items on the shopping cards. One little girl says, “I’m going to buy the raspberries instead of the chicken so that I’ll have more money left over.” Genius! Is trying to save her play money!

For black history month, the kids were writing a report on a famous black history person. Well one little boy had to do his on Harriet Tubman. I set him up on the kid friendly world book website so that he could find some facts about her life.

Me: ok, now read through this and find three facts to write about Harriet Tubman.

He looks and looks and says, “She is wearing black and white clothes?”

I love the letters I get!

Dear Ms. Campbell,

You are a great teacher. I love you so much. I know you love me so much too.

or

when given the assignment to write Horton from the Dr. Seuss book, Horton Hears a Who on something nice you did for someone I get this.

Horton Hears a Who!

Dear Horton,

I heard about your story. I did something nice too. I helped my teacher Ms. Campbell throw away her stickers. She says thank you. I say you’re welcome.

Or conversations like this occur

student: Do you know what famous person you look like Ms. Campbell?

Me: No, who?

student: Carrie Underwood, she’s a country singer. Do you know her?

Me: You think I look like Carrie Underwood? Yessssss! (high five) Don’t I just love you!

Undo It

Then there are the times where your heart melts.

“I wish you were my mom, Ms. Campbell!”

“I wanna go home with you Ms. Campbell”

All the hugs and love from these kids makes life so much better. I am so truly happy.

A New Chapter…

I haven’t been able to write in a while because I have been busy as I begin a new chapter in my life. I have to say that I am absolutely LOVING it. Life in the classroom is NEVER dull and I am already attached to the children. Originally I wanted to do social work and work with children who needed love and encouragement in their lives. Then I realized that the best way to do this is to teach! What better way to reach out and be an encouragement to these children than to be the one person that they spend most of their days with??? I am currently located in a rough school but I believe that it is the perfect place for me. Of course it has its challenges but these challenges are what will help me be a better teacher.

I am filled with excitement and joy and want to tell the world how happy I am to be doing something that I love; helping children that might not get that encouragement at home. I love these kids and there is never a dull moment with the things that come out of their mouths!

Where Are You Reading Challenge

This year I decided to sign up for a reading challenge for 2012. The challenge that intrigued me the most is the Where Are You Reading Challenge. This is reading books that takes place in different states. The goal is to see if you can read books that take place in all 50 states. Also if you are really motivated you can extend this to different countries as well!

Join with me in the 2012 challenge and read the details here.

Also feel free to follow me on shelfari! The link is on the left sidebar labeled, My bookshelf!

Good luck!

The three stooges and a funeral

A few years back I was living with my grandpa while I was in college. One day I was upstairs in my room when I heard my grandpa laughing so hard that he was almost crying. Curious as to why my, oh so tough, grandpa was laughing so hard I went downstairs to investigate.

For most of my life my grandpa has been retired but has always loved golf. So to fill up his time, he worked for a golf course and on his days off played golf with his buddies. One of these buddies, let’s call him Curley, was not doing so well and had been really sick. A few days later it was announced that Curley from such and such a town had died and the date when the funeral would be held. The other golf buddies, let’s call them Moe and Larry, were saddened by this news and decided to go to the funeral. On the day of the funeral they got dressed and arrived at the funeral home only to be a little surprised by all the unfamiliar people. The service was lovely and sad. It was when the two friends walked up to the casket to say their goodbyes to their friend and peered in when they noticed their mistake.

Moe nudged Larry and said, ” I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t look like Curley to me!”

Later that week when Moe and Larry gathered to play golf their sick and “dead” friend Curley arrived to play golf with them. Larry said, ” oh wow, Curley, you are looking REALLY good today!”

Walking down the Aisle

A beluga resurfaces

So my friends, I am here to write that the bridesmaid dress for the first wedding I will be in arrived today. Everyone was in a tizzy, even the mailman was excited as I pulled out a beautiful pink satin dress from the box. I held it up to me for everyone to see, at first the dress appeared way too long and everyone was wondering how we got the measurements wrong until the mailman pointed out the fact that not only was the dress inside out but we were looking at the train. Hmmm, we have an amazing mailman!

So…. yes I am excited! Soon I will be walking down the aisle in a Vietnamese wedding. I have been really trying to get in shape so that I am not the big white beluga whale next to these delicate little Vietnamese star fish.

So this is a first for me, but I am honored to be apart of it and can’t wait to celebrate. After that, I shall have one more wedding in April and then I can sit back, sigh and eat a bag of m&ms! My favorite!

…… Although, I have to admit, Beluga whales are pretty amazing……
